Our mission is to provide a safe environment for women and their children experiencing domestic and family violence. In line with our vision to end violence against women and their children.

Ruth’s has provided safe accommodation for over 45 years for women and their children within the Cairns area and surrounds.

Our Services and Support for clients in shelter is diverse and strengths based:

Crisis Intervention, Shelter Intake and Assessment
Information, Education and Support on Domestic Violence and the cycles of Domestic Violence
Risk Assessments and Comprehensive Safety Planning
Referral to specialist counselling and therapeutic services for both Women and their Children
Referrals for Legal Advice for all legal matters including DVO, Family Court, Property Settlements
Assistance with Immigration Issues and referrals to RAILS and Legal Supports
Assistance to access Housing Services; exploring Housing options; including housing applications, TICA and Tenancy Issues
Assistance with replacement of personal documents including ID
Assistance with referrals for Financial Counselling
Assistance with Escaping Violence Payment, Crisis Payments and Victims Assist Applications
Assistance to retrieve belongings with the Police present – Keep the Peace
Exit Safety Planning and Collaborating with external services for ongoing support
Collaboration with services to ensure holistic case managment of women and their children
